Webground® Vocals (and then some...)

All right, folks, this is the part I've been excited about. I hope you are, too.
Last year it was a crazy experiment. This time we know it will probably work. So I'm adding another level of interesting. I'll get to that in a minute.
It's time to see if we can pull off another round of webground® vocals!
What I have here is a zip file you can download. In it are some mp3s and instructions. If you have GarageBand or ProTools or Logic or Cakewalk or some sort of audio recording program you should be able to make this work. There are the backing tracks of the song and then separate tracks of the parts I need you to sing. Or play.
And by play I mean, play your instrument. Whatever instrument you do play. Acoustic guitar, flute, tuba, accordian, cello, etc... As long as you play either the chords or the main melody (which are provided for you) I'll fit you in somehow. And this will be crazy, and really might not work. But if it does, which I'm betting on, it could be awesome.
So click the link below and be a part of this project.

This kind of stuff is so fun. I wish I could do this every day, but then it might get old... Either way, I'm honored that people were a part of this last year, and I've been glad to see folks have asked to do it again. It's a thrill to hear your voices and to make this music together.
You're amazing and I hope you guys have a great time with this.
Ok, Let's Get Webgrounded®!!!
(Special thanks to Mike Allard, who made a PDF of the included instructions, since my Microsoft Word apparently has some virus. This just goes to show: Bill Gates hates webground® vocals. Thanks Mike!)

Who wants to loan me a microphone?
Peter, do you have one on your computer? That and a pair of headphones will do the trick.
Love it Andy.
One thing - it might be helpful to put the lyrics in the doc file. I'm *pretty* sure I understand what you're saying, but it would be a shame for myself or someone else to have to redo their recording because they misheard the lyrics.
Looking forward to contributing this time around!
Oh yeah, I meant to do that. Thanks for the tip. I'll add it and swap out the file later tonight. Thanks!
The new file is up, you should have the lyrics in there now. Thanks man.
Awsome! Can't wait to give it a go
Oh I'm all over this!
I'm totally going to play cello for you. Is there a deadline or cut off this time around?
This is awesome. Need another guitar track?
When should we get this back?
Frick. Yeah.
Hahaha!
"Pick one and hold it..."
This is the best thing in the music "industry" right now.
When's it due by? I don't see a date. We're on it by this weekend.
I'll probably need them by next Wednesday, at the very latest. And Paul, I sure could use another guitar track, if that's what you feel like playing!
this is such a great idea andy! kudos!
What an awesome idea this is. ;)
Don't know if anyone else is having this problem. Something seems corrupt with the file. The file crashes any expander application I use to unZIP. Also, it seems to have completely freaked out my OS (Mac). When I click on the file in any way (select, right click, etc.) it crashes the OS. It's even happening after I restart. Hopefully this is just a "user error" and no one else is having this problem.
There's no need to contact me or try to problem solve. I'm just making it known in case anyone else has this problem. Thanks. Even if I cannot be a part of this, I'm eagerly awaiting the final product.
A. Turk - Let me know if you get it working, and anybody else, let me know if you're having the same problem. Thanks.
I try to download it with Firefox 3 (on XP) and it fails repeatedly with "unable to save because an unknown error occurred." I thought it maybe was a firewall issue at work, but maybe this is more than coincidence?
FYI, my virus scanner identified a macro virus in the doc file. I seem to recall that this happened last year too, and it might not be that big of an issue (perhaps a Mac vs. PC thing), but folks should probably be aware of it just in case.
I tried downloading it earlier today and my anti-virus also detected a virus.
I'm using a Mac with OS X and Garage Band -- no problems here. Great directions, Andy. I've never done anything remotely close to this, and it worked like a charm. (Unless I screwed something up and didn't know it.) I just sent you the mp3, and I'm psyched!
Triple Ditto on the Virus detection problem. Having lots of fun with this, but anyone have any advice on cutting out the noise from my vocal track?
I just ordered a new mic Yesterday and found this out today! I hope it comes in time to give it a first go on this Project. I think this idea is just amazing, and so fun!
Same here, my virus detection picked something up on it.
