So Say We All

Well, tonight is the final Battlestar Galactica episode.  I'm sure you're all as torn up as I am.

We've had family in town the past two weekends, the weekend before that we were with family in Colorado, and this weekend my grandparents are coming to town.  They decided yesterday they were restless and felt like making a nine-hour drive to see their great-granddaughters.  I hope to be so spontaneous in my 70's.

Like a lot of us, it again seems that nothing has been going on and that it's been crazy busy.  Ella turned four on Monday.  She got a bike with training wheels.  That went fast.  That evening my wife also went to see the New Kids on the Block.  I have too many sarcastic things to say so I'll just pass on this one.

I've been busy writing, producing and playing a few sessions.  It's been fun to work with so many talented people, though I end up pretty spent at the end of most days.

Speaking of talented people, I'm going to have a killer band for Monday night's show at the Rutledge here in Nashville.  Ben Shive will be playing a set of his own and Lindsey Jones as well.  Going to be awesome, please come out.

Well, Jason Gray just got here and we're going to tweak a tune and head to lunch.  Happy Battlestar Day.

I love this toaster!!

First of all, I'm aware AO.com is loading dreadfully slowly, and I hope to have it fixed soon.  Thanks for your patience.

Secondly, I just posted a few new full-band Nashville shows to the tour dates.  If you're around, please head on over and hang out with us!

Thirdly, if you feel bad for not sending me a gift for my birthday you can get me one of these...

Yeah, that's a Battlestar Galactica toaster.  There are only three episodes left, people!  I am not ashamed!!

So the Jill Phillips show Monday night is at 3rd and Lindsley, which is not what I said the other day.  We rehearsed last night and it was fantastic.  Cason Cooley, Andy Hubbard, Aaron Sands, Andy Gullahorn, David and Ned Henry, myself and Jill.  I'm looking forward to it, and I hope you are to!  Cason produced her record "The Good Things" and it's her best yet, I think.

I have been enjoying U2 on Letterman this week, particularly last night's.  I still haven't had time to listen to the record, though, which is killing me!  (This is not totally true, though, as since that record has released I've watched a few episodes of American Idol.  But I have to, for my super-secret AI fantasy league.)

Well, I'm going to attempt to get back on this knee and go for a run here.  Today is a photo shoot, background vocal session and a few meetings, then my parents are coming to town for the weekend.  Have a great weekend, friends.  See you soon!

I threw myself down the side of a mountain

So last week our family went out to Colorado for a few days to visit Alison's brother and his wife.  It was a hectic trip, but great to see everybody.  While out there we got the chance to go skiing at the Keystone resort.  I skiied once seventeen years ago and my brother got a concussion halfway down the mountain and that was it.  It's safe to say, I am a newbie.

So Ella (my almost 4-year old daughter) and I took a "Daddy and Me" ski lesson.  We wore helmets.  It was a very short slope.  We made pizzas with our feet.  I don't want to brag, but I was totally better than she was.

Then I attempted to go down a mountain.  This was dumb.  I realized about three feet down that 30 is too old to start skiing.  Why?  Because at this age you have at least a small amount of common sense.  The line between fun and incredible pain is far too thin for a breadwinning family man to attempt to walk.  Nevertheless, I made it down twice.  My knee's a little jacked up so no running this week, but I'm glad I can say that I did it.  And that I'll never do it again.

I came back home via Ohio and played my first Caedmon's show in a few months ago.  It was good to see everybody again, and to get to play those tunes another time.

This week I've been writing tunes with Randall, doing some preproduction with Lizza Connor for a new project and a few other guitar and writing sessions.  Monday night I'm playing guitar for Jill Phillips' cd release at 12th and Porter here in Nashville.  Promises to be a great night, so come on out for that.

Lastly, for now, here's a link for any dudes out there who need something to help keep you and your conscience clean while living amongst the internet.  It's been a great gift to me and my community.  It's free and works really well...  CLICK HERE

More tomorrow, see you soon.
