You're the Inspiration

Wow, thanks so much to everybody who has left comments and sent me emails regarding my EP idea. I've gotten so many already it's going to take me a couple days to get through them. And I'd love some more. Please keep it coming. I've already finished one tune and started a second. I think this is going to be a really fun project. You guys are awesome.

On an unrelated note, I wanted to see if anybody there happens to have any sort of Mac computer laying around. My wife's old laptop screen got busted and it was barely working before that anyway. We're not in a place to get a new one but we need to replace it with something. So if anybody has something they've not gotten around to putting on ebay and would make us a good deal, we'd be grateful. Thanks.

Ok, now it's time to watch LOST from last night and then try to get some sleep. Thanks again for all the "inspirations". Please send me ideas as you have them. Oh, and what would you think about an acoustic version of New Beginning on the EP? With the new third verse I posted a few months ago...

Reader Comments (24)

Yeah, I think New Beginning acoustic with the new 3rd verse would be awesome! I mean, I already have a recording of it from the bootlegs, but it'd be nice to have a professionally recorded version! And sorry to hear about the computer. I do not have one to sell. In fact, I don't have one period. But am currently trying to scrape for one :) I hope the hunt produces good fruit and soon :)

AO..

I have an OLD imac that was given to me recently. And by old, I mean 6gb hard drive, OS 9.?, teal, etc. If you think it could serve as a temporary bridge to something newer and better, it's yours. Call me, neighbor.

No computer, sorry. I just bought a refurbed PowerBook to replace my aged desktop PC.

Also, I think it's terrific that I totally checked my Google Reader one last time before going to bed because I was absolutely positive I would see a new entry from Here In Music City, and I wanted to see what other people wrote in response to the last entry.

Can't wait to see how all this goes down!

AO: I have an old Blue and White G3 and monitor sitting in my closet in my bedroom. You tell me and I'll put it in my trunk as I get ready to leave town tomorrow, and I'll stop by on the way out of town. :)

what they said re: LOST

I'm hoping we get a blog post with your reaction to the episode. And that you were able to insulate yourself enough from those who had seen it already, etc. to avoid spoiling anything.

Your thoughts on Lost would be cool, as would your tweaked up version of "New Beginning".

May 25, 2007 | Unregistered CommenterJud

Tried to deliver a few pics to you and it said you were "over quota" what gives amigo?

May 25, 2007 | Unregistered CommenterKRS II

Uh oh, looks like the e-mail response has been a little *too* good. Not surprising if folks (like me I must confess) sent a couple pictures to go along with their ideas.

May 25, 2007 | Unregistered CommenterJud

Hey KRS II - thanks for the heads up. We have HTML spam to thank for filling my inbox so quickly. It's cleared up now, if you want to try and send them again. Thanks!

MacAuthority might still have those really cheap old iBooks for sale. You could give them a call.

thanks to the blog entry title I have had Chicago's "you bring meaning to my life, your the inspiration, when you love somebody, (always on my mind) when you love somebody (till the end of time) in my head.

I think that a stripped down New beginnings would sound nice, I also think a cover on there would be good, just don't do "crazy" like everyone else, that is so last year..

new version of new beginning would be sweet! I'm sorry to hear about your computer- I wish that i could help. Definitely excited to hear your new songs and of course to hear the forthcoming Caedmons!

Swords & Stones

Not a hint of Your intent
We’re a long way from the Garden
A thousand lies away from Eden
Yeah, we used to live that long.

There’s not a life that isn’t left
A busted fossil of our Father’s
There’s not a breath that isn’t labored
But “Hallelujah on our tongues.

(chorus)
And it takes so long
To pour it out and fill it up with gold

Another voice on the radio
Says we should all go back to Eden
But not a one of them could lead us
Even if they offered to.

‘Cause Adam’s blood, sweat and tears
Have flooded all our footprints
But you can back-track through the branches
To the choice that damned us all.

There’s not a voice, a native tongue
Whereby instinct love is spoken
There’s no default good intentions
It’s a disease we all pass down.

(chorus)
And it takes so long
To pour it out and fill it up with gold
I got a heart full of foreign stone
And a pocket full of plastic hope
And it’s all gone.

Now the lion eats the lamb
Because everything is broken
Both problems and solutions
Are tainted with the aftermath.

In a world of dying life
Where evil lives incarnate
Maybe there’s a call to fight it
Both on and off my knees.

But all this talk seems anti-Christ
Thank God He’s not a poet
‘Cause the Word came down from Heaven
And this song won’t save your life.

chorus

Jeff,

I must agree on the Chicago reference.
I love old Chicago, and 80's and 90's Chicago love songs are one of my guilty pleasures.

"they're a hard habit to break" haha, i couldn't resist.

ps
and i really like some of those lyrics above.

I'll probably be the only one that says this here, but here goes...

I'd rather not see a new version of 'new beginning' on the EP--mostly because i'd rather see a new song in it's place. It's a great song and i love the album version, but i want to hear new songs. Sure, it means more work for you...but that's the fun part, right?

Andy.

Email me at brody.harper@mac.com

I have a computer for you, if you don't have one already.

May 26, 2007 | Unregistered Commenterbrody

Ever read God Came Near by Max Lucado? Each chapter is a different story in itself and each one could make a good song... check it out.

May 28, 2007 | Unregistered CommenterChris Rule

I hope that this is progressing well for you, Andy. I know it's gonna sound good, at least on the guitar. ;)

As for the re-cut of "New Beginning", I say, "Yes, please!" And maybe you could finally record "Phoenix" that you played back in 2003-4 some of the time live yet have never put it on a record. Despite the fact that I always think of that as a Caedmon's song, I just want to have it out there for people to hear.
