yeah, they USED to be cool

I think we all have that dude in us who doesn't like things just because they're popular. Or worse, used to like them BEFORE they got popular and now talk about how great they used to be and how lame they are now. I'm kind of that guy. I'm totally that guy about Sarah McLachlan. I got kind of bummed when she got big. But I also hope people get bummed about me someday. ("Did you see Osenga's last blog? He actually paid all his bills again this month... Sellout.")

I'm sort of in the don't-like-it-cause-it's-hip camp with John Mayer, but I just found his blog, and I have to admit, he's pretty freaking funny. And he ain't a bad guitar player. And he doesn't sing as gross and phlegmy as he used to. And his songs aren't as pervy as the early stuff. I'm not a big fan or anything, but I think I can officially say, I don't NOT like him anymore.

My wife is mad because she ate a Krystal Chik the other day and liked it. ("I LIKED hating Krystal!!!")

In that vein, I am also officially not ashamed at all to say that I really like the new Rascal Flatts cd. Perfect pop music, and I love it.

All right, I'm going to help my wife fold clothes and then go to bed somewhat early. Post again soon.

Wow. I was enjoying this entry until the words "I like" and "Rascal Flatts" were used in the same sentence. I will have to listen to "The Morning" tomorrow to help me remember the good in you. I'm gonna go get sick now.

See, Andy, I can't listen to Rascal Flatts because I'm afraid I would start liking them, and I can't start liking mainstream country music. Really, I can't. I just can't.

I remember when Osenga was cool... then he started listening to Rascal Flats! I'm so disillusioned!!!!

I'm really enjoying "Continuum." I really didn't care for John Mayer back when he was busting through double doors and swimming in deep seas of blankets, but then... THEN I saw him perform on Austin City Limits. I had no idea he was such an amazing musician. I've bought his last three albums, including "Try" by John Mayer Trio, and I can't seem to get enough. I, too, have enjoyed his blog. What's not to love about a mega-pop star that's willing to walk around the parking lot before his shows dressed in a bear suit?

I'll second Andrew's album-of-the-year vote for "Surprise" by Paul Simon.

I like hating Krystal too. Except where I come from, Krystal is roughly equivalent to White Castle. I can't decide which I like hating more.

John Mayer is sort of one of those guys that will go back and forth. First you like his guitar, then he goes the other way and is a pervert and sounds like his tongue is too big for his mouth, then swings back and does the Herbie Hancock thing and is all "cool jazz guy", then yet again back the other way and starts dating Jessica Simpson, then again back the other way and dumps her for "using him for publicity"... next he will do something lame again... it's easier to just not like him.

I love Rascal Flatts and the Normals! They are side by side in my virtual cd collection aka the iPod.
