Left Side of the Brain, Meet Right Side of the Brain

My weeks are starting to be busy in a new way right now. A lot of business-y things are going on and so it's been a lot of meetings, a lot of brainstorming, a lot of making of lists (and checking them twice). It's all very good stuff, and I think I'm just going to lay it all out when it's a little closer to complete, but it's enough to say that we're trying to get the Andy O machine off the ground in the next year, and I'm really excited.
I've been trying to find time to write new songs recently. It hasn't been easy to shift from the business to the creative, the left to the right side of the brain, but I have a few things I'm excited about.
I'm going to go in the studio with Neilson Hubbard starting next week, which should be fun. He produced Matthew Perryman Jones, Glen Phillips and Emily Deloach, and is going to help be another set of ears for me on these tunes. We're just going to start with a handful of songs and see where they take us. I'll keep you posted next week. Probably very posted actually.
I've also started carving out some time this summer for Letters to the Editor, Vol. 2, so if you get a good song idea, write it down. I probably won't ask for them until June, at least, but I thought I ought to get it on your radar.
A couple of other things (in beloved bullet form)
- This site is awesome.
- I played with JJ and Dave Heller last night at the Exit/In here in Nashville, and we opened for Chris Sligh of last season's American Idol.
- The new AndrewOsenga.com is getting close to finished, and it's looking (and working) killer. Can't wait to show it to you.
- I love the new Colbie Caillat song "Realize" just as much as I loved her first one. It's amazing, and hopeful, to me that a good, actual song can still get played on the radio. I didn't think they still played real music these days.
- You ever get that feeling that you're supposed to be somewhere, doing something, but you can't remember what? I have that feeling all the time.
Ok, now I'm going to go try and turn off the business and finish a couple tunes.

I just found that Garfield site, too, and I love it. Poor Jon Arbuckle.
Andy,
When you get a minute (or is that IF you get a minute), could you share what it is about the song "Realize" that makes it a "good, actual song." I know I like it, but I'm just curious of your thought process on it as someone around the "biz."
I appreciated you mentioning it, too. It's the first I've heard of Colbie.
Thanks!
tim
Can't wait to see...or i guess hear the result of all these projects
But isn't Colbie Callait the epitome of formulaic? Personally, I'm a lot more thrilled about Brett Dennen being on the radio...
What kind of music is Chris Sligh doing? Did he cover the police?
Thanks for the update!
i have that feeling ALL the time.
things that make you go hmmmm. andy o machine.....hmmmm.
is it some sort of time travel machine? or maybe even a shape shifting machine?
looking forward to it whatever it is :)
and as for the new website, i'm sure peter will be stoked to hear that.
I'll have to agree that Colbie is formulaic...bought her cd back in the summer at the recommendation of my sister...thought it was pretty decent....until...well, my sister took me to her show back last August...my gosh it was the most boring thing i've ever experienced...most upbeat songs were at least a quarter slower live and everything just sounded the same...to this day, i've yet to listen to that cd again...i was that turned off to it...
i don't like Colbie much although i dig her stuff but i like her friends better. They are Jason reeves (who co-wrote with Colbie most of the time) and Tyrone Wells (you might recognize him as the lead singer of the where-are-they-now CCM band SKYPARK and he was also featuired on Maranatha's Alternative Praise CD,the cd which also featuered Maria McKee)
You are quite correct, my good Wally.
Volume 2! Excellent!
Try XPN.org for your radio listening pleasure. It is the radio station in Philly that produces the World Cafe show with David Dye. Very eclectic playlist to say the least.
Easy with the Colbie hatin' ... Is her music innovative and groundbreaking? No. But let's give her credit for doing what she does - writing her OWN music (something few pop stars do anymore), and having a GREAT ear for a good melody! Sure, her music isn't technically complicated, and her lyrics are a tad bubblegummy at times, but that's a very small complaint as they're a long long way from nauseating.
I know, I know, it's "cool" to prove how artsy we are by criticizing all the popular music on the radio ("Oh, the kids like it, it must be bad!"), but Colbie actually does produce legitimate songs that are fun to listen to and easy to sing along with.
And yes, I love Brett Dennen, too. =)
Yay Tyrone!
