First Dance

Quick question: If you're married, to what song did you have your first dance?
If you're not married, what song would you like that to be? If you've been married a couple times, which song was the best? And lastly, if Matthew Perryman Jones and I were going to sing that first dance song, like we did last night, what would you like to hear?

Cat and I danced to "That Sunday that Summer" sung by Natalie Cole. We met at a summer church camp where the first Sunday night the adult counselors met to plan and set up.
U2 - All I Want is You. I don't recommend that though, unless you edit it down to a few minutes. We danced the whole thing which was about 8-9 excruciating minutes of going around in circles.
Norah Jones - Come Away With Me
was almost Son of A Preacher Man, Dusty Springfield.
Another "True Companion" by Marc Cohn here.
"Crush" by DMB
Grace - The Normals, no joke.
You and Matthew Perryman Jones? Freebird!
...or anything by the Divinyls.
we either danced to "meghans song" by M.P.J, or "closer" by nine inch nails. lunch on tuesday??
AP's "Isn't It Love," the slow version. I'm not married, just to clarify.
I forgot what the movie was called, but remember seeing a wedding band playing U2's "With our Without You"- love that- "I can't live, with or without you" ;)
When my wife and I got married in the 90's (yeah, I know the exact year!) we struggled between two songs, Geoff Moore and the Distance's "If you could see what I see" and BabyFace's "Everytime I close my eyes". We went with the latter thinking we'd be more likely to hear that again at a restaurant or club later in life and be able to recall our special dance. With 4 little kids the likelihood we're ever in a club again or a restaurant that doesn't have circus music playing in the background is slim- I would say I regret that decision!
We did "What am I to You" by Norah. She's full of good "first dance" songs. Also, Jeff H, this one's for you. I proposed to my wife by having her come up at one of my concerts and serenating her with "All I Want is You." Ah... those were the days...
"The Luckiest" by Ben Folds
No dancing @ my wedding... we were on a riverboat and my family is hardcore Southern Baptist. But I have to say that Romeo on the Radio has become one of "our" songs and when you combine it with Innocence, and Grace it becomes 13 of the most romantic minutes ever recorded. (Outside of Luther Vandross of course)
Chet Baker "Time after time"
was our dance at our wedding...it was beautiful....as was she.
We had 2 first dances (is that possible?) We musicians are stubobrn sometimes.. We know what we want! I planned out 90% of what the DJ played at the reception (and had to give her 90% of the cd's to use, too). Anyway, we had "If You Could See What I See" (Geoff Moore & The Distance) [Sorry you didn't get to use it Dave Hauper! One of the drummers in my last band used it at his, too] and "No One Can(take you Away)" (Marillion).
I've often joked that we should have done CC's "Mistake of My Life", though it wasn't out at that time... and I usually get smacked, too.
AO & MPJ doing Dylan's "Lay lady lay" would be cool.. and yet weird at the same time! Not as weird or cool as if they attempted Pink Floyd's "Great Gig In the Sky".
We danced to "Nothin' Fancy" by Dave Barnes.
It will either be dance away the city or Better than Wine by Derek. We'll let you pick for us.
"It Never Entered My Mind" by Mile Davis.
Easily the most romantic song I've ever heard.
I'm hoping for Somewhere North by Caedmon's Call.
"I Could Not Ask for More" by Edwin McCain
"By the Way they Dance" by Jump Little Children
Edwin McCain's "I Could Not Ask For More"
I'm still proud of that...still holds up.
as for you and jones: louisiana woman, mississippi man
We also used Bebo's "A Page is Turned" at our wedding almost 9 years ago. Amy had sent me the song shortly after we started dating in 1996, and we realized that song could be our story. I even put off my summer proposal to the first weekend of autumn. cheeeeese.
I've always though Ridgely's " Cheud Dannsa" would be a gorgeous first dance.
After thinking this for about 3 months, I actually looked up what " Cheud Dannsa" meant, and it's Gaelic for "First Dance." Figures. ;)
