halfway

We finished our first of two week-long tracking sessions today. We'll meet together as a band to do another six days in about two weeks. It's been an amazing time. As usual, songs we thought would be the highlight never got recorded, songs we thought weren't very good we ended up loving, and I wrote a couple new ones that we all like more than most of the others.

At the end of the day I asked Mitch, who engineered, to bounce the rough mixes of the nine songs we'd done to a CD. We were all surprised that we had gotten that many songs recorded in what seemed like such a hectic time. Our band gets together and jokes and laughs for what seems like WAY too long, only to get a days worth of work done in the half a day we have left. It continues to make my day start in frustrated confusion and end in baffled gratitude. And as Mitch was bouncing the mixes he said "Dude, I think we have TEN songs, not nine..." We did. And I like them all. I love this job.

Tomorrow I'm going to try and get stuff done that I've neglected for the past week and a half. If you've sent me an email, tomorrow you may get a response. If you sent me a bill, tomorrow I may try to pay it. If you're my basement and you're a total mess, I may try to clean you. If you're a reader of my blog, tomorrow you may have something interesting before your eyes. And if you're my kids who I haven't seen during the daytime in a week, we're sure as heck going to run around the front yard and go to the library.

if I was your kid, I'd appreciate the trip to the library and a sampling of the new cd :)
