still on the bus

6 PM and we're still on the bus on the way to Tampa for our 7 PM show. Somewhere in Georgia last night one of the wheels on our trailer fell off, so we had to take a number of hours getting it fixed. Tonight will be interesting.
Last night's show at the Ryman was pretty amazing. I'd say it was hands down the best performance we've ever done. There were some incredible things going on in the songwriter round. Randall Goodgame blew my mind in a Ray Charles way I've never seen him embrace before. Jill sang "The Door" and kicked it in the teeth with goodness. I played "Hold the Light" on electric and felt really great about it.
There's something about a stage like the Ryman, a place where Elvis and Johnny Cash loom large. Just being there makes you a little nervous, because it makes you want to rise to the occasion. I felt like my community rose to the occasion last night and added a tiny bit to the legacy of that place.
All right, we're almost there, about to go into over-drive getting ready to pull this show off. Thank you to everybody who came out last night and were a part of that magical night.

"Hold The Light" was amazing, amazing, amazing.
Nashville MUST have been great, I can't imagine hearing anything better than Birmingham's show. It was truly amazing!!
Andy, my wife and I came up to Nashville with Ron last night. "Hold the Light" was great--keep playing the electric "in the round." "Behold" was amazing too. Glad I got to experience The Ryman at least once in my life.
The Charlotte show was great. I really enjoyed Hold The Light on electric [and swing wide was great too]. Though I must say I'm not sure I aprove of child labor for your roadie
As I read about you singing "Hold the Light," I see you literally holding a light (bulb) in the header image at the top of the page. Your sense of humor is keen.
I think your song was the best of the night. Great job.
the Ryman was fantastic. The electric sounds great, as always. That's probably some of the best performing I've seen you do, which is definitely a compliment at the ryman.
the show was incredible. i really haven't ever been to a concert like that. i loved the way it ended with you guys dodging the glory and humbly walking off the stage.
david wilcox REALLY seemed to enjoy your guitar playing.
The Tampa show was awesome, well worth the wait! Thanks for playing New Beginning. I really like the "new ending" :) to the song. It really tied the song up well. Two weeks in Africa rocked!
can we get a live playing of swing wide anywhere???
i'd like to know what song randall did...
no, wait... scratch that.... i'd just get jealous...
though i do have a great recording of "heaven waits" from when he played our church earlier this year. i promised not to distribute it, but i did give him a copy, so hit him for it someday...
Shane,
Randall did an amazing job with "Heaven Waits" at the Ryman. That guy's just awesome.
Thanks for playing Hold the Light; it was my favorite song at my favorite venue (Ryman, obviously). After going through a lot of questioning and anger myself I really was right there with you and it actually moved ME to tears (seems to be a lot of movement to tears around here). Thank you thank you thank you.
