I wish I was a Heartbreaker

Had a great meeting this morning. The kind that inspires you by looking at the truth. Often, and probably always, that means facing the hard things that needed to be looked at and dealt with.
But in deciding to face them, deciding to do what needs to be done, there is a freedom. A flexing of some long-forgotten muscle. A "good burn" as Ron Burgundy would say.
So I got in my car and accidentally went to Tom Petty's Greatest Hits on my ipod. Then I listened to this song eight times in a row. That second verse hit me harder than any song has in a looooong time. Thanks, Tom.
I WON'T BACK DOWN
Well I won't back down, no I won't back down
You can stand me up at the gates of hell
But I won't back down
Gonna stand my ground, won't be turned around
And I'll keep this world from draggin me down
Gonna stand my ground
and I won't back down
Hey baby, there ain't no easy way out
Hey, I will stand my ground
And I won't back down
Well I know what's right, I got just one life
In a world that keeps on pushin me around
But I'll stand my ground
and I won't back down
Hey baby, there ain't no easy way out
Hey, I will stand my ground
And I won't back down
No, I won't back down

Tom freakin Petty... That's some good music... I always get stuck on running down a dream... One of my favorite songs to listen to when i'm driving somewhere...
Soon enough you'll be Tom Cruise in Jerry Maguire screaming Tom Petty songs...its a great scene from a great movie
great philosophy from a great pot-smokin' musician. why is drug music so good? I always wondered that. If it weren't so bad for me, I'd think about doing a little of my own, and then I'd write a hit record... and die shortly after.
hopefully the meeting didn't have anything to do with iran.
are you still going to write about the invasion? i'm very interested and curious.
that's funny. I just wrote a blog entitled "I wish I was a Blowfish."
I heard an interview last week on NPR with Petty-- he's got a new album out. He said this song was probably the one that has affected the most people-- which is surprising to him, because he said he wrote it in like 10 minutes while tracking a different song. But it came after an arsonist destroyed his house while he and his family were inside, so he thinks that's the sentiment that was behind the song...not being afraid anymore. It was an interesting interview. Anyway, good song choice!
