TONIGHT!

Man, I'm excited. You'd think I didn't play a hundred or so shows a year the way I'm feeling. We rehearsed last night and it was a blast. The band was exceptional, as always, and I have no doubt the show will rock. I rewired my pedal board a little bit, having gotten rid of my old overdrive pedal and replaced it with two others, and I feel as if a "veil has been lifted" on my tone. Even the guys I've played with for years were noticing. Man, tonight's going to be fun.

If any of you know about Woot, it's a hilarious overstock-sale website that sells one item a day. I usually check it every day, mostly because it cracks me up. Eight rock points for the first person to respond with what makes today's post so awesome...

All right, that's it for me today. I'll post again after the show tonight or tomorrow morning. Looking forward to seeing a bunch of you out there!

"And the next time you’re on the bus and the normals threaten to get too close with their foul breath and their tentlike sports jerseys..."

So, where do I redeem my rock points? Are there any blackout dates?

Hey, I just read the interview in Relevant. Great stuff. You are really honest, which is nice. This may be a stretch, but if you can remember playing at Christ Church of Oakbrook with Derek Webb about 4 years ago, my band Rufus Tree opened for you guys. I was in heaven because the Normals were one of my favorite bands at the time. Peace. Pete.

Awesome show tonight! You sounded great, and the band rocked.

I'm with Pete on the Relevant interview. Very high-quality, on-the-level interview. & I had no idea The Normals broke up because of stuff going on in your church. I guess that's what I get for believing Christianity Today's whole "the band broke up so the guys could all be good husbands" shpiel, though I guess both could be true. Regardless, I'm glad that you, Alison & Ella have been able to get involved in a church in spite of past wounds, & that, once again, you've been able to translate your own suffering into extremely honest & powerful music. Woot for you, Andy.

On a completely unrelated note, I've just started reading A Farewell to Arms, mainly because you keep referencing Hemmingway in your music &...well, my opinion of his writing would mirror that of your thoughts on Fender Twins: about as appealing as a paper bag full of farts. His heroes in The Sun also Rises & short stories like "Big Two-Hearted River" always strike me as annoyingly arrogant, like they're running away from their past but that's ok, because they're abiding by their new heroic code of ethics, which usually involves drinking a lot & making fun of people that think sex actually means anything (a.k.a. Robert Cohn). [End anti-Hemmingway rant here.]

But yes, I've been reading Farewell to Arms, & it seems different, like the main character is actually searching & confused. I especially liked his intoxicated philosophical observation that "we did not do the things we wanted to do; we never do those things." Sounds suspiciously like an "After the Garden" lyric to me... :-)

Aaaaaaaaaaanyway, I hope your show kicked tail tonight, & that you sold bunches of albums. It's certainly the best $15 I've spent in quite some time.

The show was totally worth the pain of driving home last night.

I hope my recording came out well. I'll try to track it up tomorrow ... and I'll let people know how to get it.
