wait... this isn't New York City...

So we were supposed to be playing in New York today, but we found out at the last minute that the show got cancelled for some reason, no clue why, so I end up with a couple unexpected, but not unwelcome, days back at home. I got back home yesterday around 5 am and slept in and then just played with Ella, burnt popcorn with Alison and watched a couple of episodes of Scrubs before getting a good night's sleep in my own bed.

We just went and picked up our car at the shop. Ouch. Apparently those little lights on your dashboard don't just come on at random and they aren't necessarily all scams to get you to keep fixing stuff that's not broken. I guess I sort of take the Oprah way of looking at car repair : I like to "believe" that they're working just fine. Some people have to learn the hard way, and that is me. I've always figured that when your cars are in their teens it's sort of a guessing game as to what's worth fixing, but it probably wouldn't hurt to not let them get that far.

Anyway, after that fun and exciting trip I headed over to my new publisher's office to take care of a bit of paperwork. I'm starting to work as a songwriter for a small company here in town in hopes of a) getting some more income using the gifts I've been given and b) trying to get better songs on christian radio. Once, and if, this ball gets rolling it would allow me to continue to play music for a living while traveling a bit less. I'm meeting with five people next week to help them try and write for their records, and I think that will be a lot of fun. It's a busy first week, but the best way to learn is by doing it, so...

I left Thursday night last week for four shows and got back yesterday early morning. When I left Ella was walking four or five feet at a time. Yesterday she walked from one side of the house to the other without even thinking about, and today she walked pretty fast, dare I say a "run." (note the punctuation) It's crazy how fast she is growing up and starting to turn into a little girl. What a precious time. She's crying now because she doesn't want to take a nap, of course, but still, precious.

Well, I'm going to go work on cleaning up the basement a bit and getting it a bit ready for the new things to take place down there. After I head to the store and get diapers, of course.
