oh, yet another hare-brained scheme...

I think I had the weirdest fund-raising idea ever today. (I'm raising money to help make my next album, in case you haven't been here in a while...) So let me know what you think about this one...

Everybody loves to hate McDonald's, and we all hate to love it, but most of us do. I am usually pretty good at fending off the corporate demon with his salty-sweet undigestable french fries, but when they throw Monopoly into the mix, I am a goner. Mark Lockett got me hooked on their version of the game back in high school, and every year I fall for it again.

So here's my idea. If you eat McDonald's, and you get those little game pieces, and you don't collect them yourself, throw them in an envelope and send them to me. If I win anything, I'll sell it and use the money for the record. I know, I know, it's crazy, but who knows? It wouldn't cost anything and it just might help. If you didn't want to waste a stamp, you could even e-mail me if you have a few sitting around, and I could check them against what I've already got. Or I could post a daily tab of what I have on here...

Anyway, in real actual not-crazy-talk world, I pretty much just mixed all day. Jake Randall has a song on his EP called "Not Bad" that I spent a long time on. It's a really great 6/8 torch tune, and I had a blast working on it. I think it's my favorite mix I've done, which I'll admit is not saying much, but I think Jake will like it. Maybe he'll let me post a bit of it when his record comes out.

I swung over to Paul Eckberg's house this morning, where he was doing some work with Kenny Meeks, or should I say, legendary awesome guitar player Kenny Meeks. He's played on a billion records, Goodgame's 'War and Peace' and Webb's 'She Must And Shall Go Free' being a few familiar to this community. Anyway, I helped them out getting a bit of drum sounds, which was a nice break for my ears after so much mixing.

Ella just got this little round table that she sort of sits in the middle of, it helps her stand up, and surrounds her with little toys. She is content to just hang out there and bend the toys into her mouth all day. Alison had to run a few errands, so Ella sat next to me while I worked, and she just played and started singing along for quite a while. We had a good little time. I'll put a picture of her in it up here soon. Man, I love having a baby.

Highly recommended.

As is marriage.

Probably first.

AO, thx again, for including us in your life. It's a daily treat to share in your ramblings on work, rest, & play (snickers anyone?)

I really enjoyed this line, "Everybody loves to hate McDonald’s, and we all hate to love it, but most of us do." All our game pieces are yours. Not that it's any great abundance, but we occasionally stop in for a "double cheeseburger meal, no onion & a filet-o-fish meal, no tartar."

Wow. That could be the coolest idea for raising money for an album...ever.

Too bad I have tried to swear off Mickey D's to aid in the shrinking of my waistline. But if I cave in, the pieces are yours.

Ahh..and the memories of the Exersaucer. That is one great invention!

I had to swear off Mickey D's fries after watching "The Smoking Fry" on the "Supersize Me" DVD--a bizarre experiment where they left some McDonald's fries in a glass jar for eight weeks to see how they break down. Not good. But you've got gumption. I like that.

My two boys are nine months old and love their exersaucers. They love to put those bendy toys in their mouths. Of course, they like to put my shoes in their mouth too.

Several days ago I established a Yahoo group dedicated to people currently involved in playing the McDonald’s Monopoly Game. It is a group that has been created to help people network and compare the "stamps" they have with those other’s have. In my case, I currently have Park Place and all I need to find is someone who has Boardwalk to win.

But winning — at least for me — is beside the point and is not why I started the group. I am not in this for the money. Instead, I set out on this adventure because of two very dear people in my life. Recently a long time friend was suddenly diagnosed with bladder cancer. And although he has some medical resources available to him, the winnings from half of the McDonald’s jackpot would make it possible for him to acquire the best possible medical care available thereby further increasing substantially his chances of survival. On the other hand, I also have another very dear friend (a widow) who recently learned that she is losing her hearing and without hearing aids, she hasn’t much hope of overcoming her disability. As many that receive this may know, when you are elderly, even though you have MediCare or even MediCal, it doesn’t pay for things like hearing aids. And hearing aids these days costs upwards of $3,000 and $4,000.00.

Since the last thirty five years of my life has been dedicated to helping underwrite lifesaving medical procedures for catastrophically and terminally ill children, the remainder of the winnings would be dedicated to helping underwriting even more medical procedures. Although I am extremely proud of what I have already accomplished, as well the acknowledgment by even the President of the United States and First Lady for my work, as long as I am alive I will always be dedicated to anything I can do to further help save children’s lives. As the press that has followed my work has often written, there are few out there that are doing the same.

At one point I was informed by someone who was a member of one of the groups my message reached that he had the companion piece, Boardwalk. I was so elated at the news that I stupidly informed the people I was setting out to help that I had found the elusive stamp and was nearing the potential to help them. But as it turns out, it seems like the individual didn’t have the piece and it was all a "gag." Therefore, I am once again on the hunt. Although I could sit here and ask people for the money to help meet the need, this is one time I want to do this on my own. I know everyone is already burdened with so much given the events in New Orleans and else where.

Consequently, if someone .... and I am begging at this point .... has Broadway, please contact me at LB5622331577@astound.net, or LB5622331577@yahoo.com. Likewise, if you do have other stamps that could help someone else and together you could work to help claim the prizes that remain, please visit the group listed below consisted of those dedicated to playing the game. Whatever we can do to help others is always a good thing because it is my belief that when we are helping others, we are also helping ourselves.

I thank the moderators for their cooperation and assistance in distributing this message, as well as any others that will take the time to distribute this message as well. Too, if you or someone you know also needs help with an ongoing medical procedure or expense, please don’t hesitate to contact me. With what is left over from my half of the winnings, I am sure that I can help you as well.

Sincerely,

Tony
