Walking in Memphis
Sunday, December 2, 2007 at 10:23PM
Andy P's boys are on the bus with us tonight and I'm writing in the midst of a pillow fight barrage. Good times.
Had a fun show last night in Dallas, saw a lot of new and old friends. Taco Cabana afterwards was a welcome late-night snack. CLICK HERE for Chris' pictures of the show.
Tonight we're in Memphis and we played to a very different, but very warm, crowd in a large church's evening service. We played a shorter concert, but it was good. Sometimes you're able to really feel that the truth is going out through your songs and is being received in ways that will actually change people. Tonight was one of those nights.
Last night's songs:
There is a Reason
Early in the Morning
Tonight's song:
New Beginning

I echo shane. You guys sounded amazing tonight, and I was glad to hear "New Beginning." It's one that means a lot to me. I wanted to hang around and meet you guys, but I had to speed across town and see Stevie Wonder. It was a good night of tunes.
I'll be at the sold out show in austin tomorrow. please consider playing 'Kara'. Believe it or not, my girlfriend's name is Kara and she is from my home town and i used to listen to that song every night until i finally worked up the courage to call her and ask her out. We've been doing the long-distance thing for awhile but i'll be moving to Dallas soon to be with her. Anyways, i'm hoping to play that song at our wedding someday (soon hopefully). She'll be there with me tonight so it would be a HUGE surprise and I'd really appreciate it. by the time you get to this sentence you should know that this story is complete fiction and i don't really know any girls named kara, but it would be pretty sweet if you played the song anyway. plus 'coming to life'
lol Steve...that totally threw me until I got to the end....I was feeling a little awkward about the whole request thing, and then I just cracked up. Nicely done.
We were at the concert in Memphis. I am so thankful that we had the opportunity to be a part of this incredible performance. The music was so moving and captived the entire audience. The song "New Beginnings" was awesome. Tonight was one of those nights that you could feel each and every heart was touched by God. Thank you for sharing the wonderful words, music and the love of Christ with us.
What's Gully been playing during the solo piece of these shows?
We're bummed we won't catch the tour this year. We went to the Ryman and saw those incredible shows in 2004 and 2005... then had to miss last year when the Ryman show moved a Wednesday night. We'll miss this year too -- just too hard to drive from Missouri in the middle of the week. [Please visit MO next year!]
We'll never forget when Gully performed "Holy Flakes" one year and "Roast Beef" the next. The crowd response was the same both times -- half was stunned and speechless, the other half was rolling with laughter. I'd love to know what his setlist is this year. Thanks.
Mmmm... Taco Cabana.
of the solo set...Andy Gullahorn stole the show...very funny and with two pretty touching songs
"early in the morning" was amazingly touching...and I would say it was the single best song of all the solo songs
but "there is a reason" is just not in Andy's top 40 songs...my friend who is a stellar guitarist in his own right, mentioned the noticeable difference between the overall quality of the two songs...and I agree
all in all it was an amazing show! I now have a couple more artists on my radar!
Rob, I've been to two shows (in Dallas and Austin), and at one show AG played "If I Were" and "More of a Man" and at the other he played "Roast Beef" and "Give It Time."
Andy Gullahorn's "If I were" is pretty dang salty...very well penned
Great show in Richardson Andy. I really like your version of There is a Reason. I think you somehow have to talk Cliff into letting you sing lead on it on the Spring tour. I'm bummed that didn't play Roses and Swing Wide but that's ok. Thanks for hanging out with me afterwards.
Andy, loved the show man. I've been listening to BTL since about this time last year and nearly fell out when i learned you guys were coming to our church. Your description of "very different" but "very warm" pretty much is dead on--most of our crowd had never heard any of this music, so it was an educational experience for them--they had no idea what to expect (and you could tell it, but you could also sense as the show went on how receptive, welcome and hungry everyone was for more--I did NOT want it to end). I can tell you that you blew them (us) away, who are now open to and aware of some of the best and most beautiful music being written and performed today. Thank you for doing what you do. I hope you guys come back to Memphis or our area again next year.
